How We Met

Jason and Kathy met through an online dating site called chemistry.com. They had their first date at Chevy's on Friday January 20, 2006. At the end of their date Jason gave the date a two thumbs up and Kathy agreed.

Our Engagement

Kathy suggested to Jason that he should plan a mystery getaway for Memorial Day weekend. Kathy usually planned most of their trips so she was very excited about getting a surprise.

Kathy and Jason got a late start on Saturday. They packed a picnic lunch to have on the way to their destination. Kathy still had no idea where they were headed. Jason started driving north along Highway 280; he turned off the road toward Half Moon Bay. They stopped at a beach in Half Moon Bay and carried their picnic lunch down to the beach. It was very foggy, windy and cold. Jason didn't realize that summer wasn't the best time of year to visit the coast. They ate their lunch and then headed back to the car.

The drive continued north, they crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and then continued on Highway 1. Kathy thought she had an idea of where they were going but she wasn't quite right. They continued on the twisty winding road until they came to the very small town of Olema on the border of the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Here Jason pulled off the road at the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge. They checked into their room and then explored the grounds. The Lodge had a beautiful lawn and gardens that bordered a small trickling creek. Kathy and Jason had a glass of wine at the bar and then played a game of pool at the Lodge. They weren't very good at it but had a lot of fun anyway. They had a 7:30 PM reservation at the Olema Inn & Restaurant that was across the street. They had so much fun playing pool that before they knew it; it was almost 7:30.

They quickly changed their clothes and then headed across the street. Dinner was lovely. They started off by sharing a half bottle of the 2004 Murphy-Goode Cabernet Sauvignon and splitting a Bolinas Little Gems Salad.

Kathy asked Jason, "Do you have any more surprises for me this weekend?" Jason said, "Maybe. You'll just have to wait and see."

Kathy had the Niman Ranch Grilled Pork Chop and Jason had the line caught Ahi Tuna. After this they shared a yummy desert, a Cherry-Strawberry and Rhubarb Crisp with Vanilla ice cream. After this Kathy excused herself to the bathroom. While she was in the bathroom Jason pulled the ring box out of his right pocket.

When Kathy returned to the table Jason said, "I love you!" Kathy felt a little embarrassed so she said, "Who, me?" and looked behind her. She was being silly. Jason said, "You of course." Kathy said, "I love you," back to him. Then Jason said, "I can't imagine my life without you!" Kathy was speechless; she had an idea that something was about to happen. Jason then said, "I have another surprise for you." He then came over to her and kneeled down, he opened the ring box and said, "Will you marry me?" Kathy said, "Yes," and kissed him.

She looked at the beautiful ring and asked him if he could put it on her finger. The waitress asked, "Did she say yes?" Kathy responded, "Yes!" Everyone in the restaurant cheered and clapped and then came over to congratulate them. Jason and Kathy enjoyed the rest of their weekend in Point Reyes, exploring the area; hiking and even went horseback riding.
